Maury’s experience focuses at the intersection of technology, business, education and law. His current roles include: Founder and CEO of LearnerShape, which is developing and commercializing the world’s leading open source learning infrastructure — a set of modular microservices that can be combined and augmented to deliver customized learning applications Director and General Counsel of PeopleCert, a leading a fast-growing global provider of testing and certification services for business, IT and language qualifications, which in 2021 became the first unicorn-valued company based in Greece Founder and Managing Director of Lily Innovation Advisors, through which he handles a portfolio of activities related to technology innovation — including private equity and venture investment, advice (including on data and start-up issues) and teaching/writing Advisor to global law firm Steptoe & Johnson, where he is a dual-qualified US/UK lawyer and former managing partner of the London office, and has assisted companies from the world’s largest to start-ups on a wide variety of regulatory, commercial and transactional matters focused on technology. Maury has a deep practical understanding of technology, gained through legal and consulting practice, extensive work with technology companies, his education and time spent as a computer programmer. His technical expertise focuses IT, telecommunications, artificial intelligence and education technology. He is a lover of languages — a native speaker of English (the American version), proficient in French and Russian, and dilettante in Spanish, German, Greek, Mandarin Chinese, Italian and Norwegian. He is also an avid competitive and recreational sailor, and a guitar and piano player. Maury has a JD from Stanford Law School, with distinction (Order of the Coif), and was Managing Editor of Stanford Journal of International Law. He did his AB at Harvard University and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
