Late exhibitioner of St. Peter’s College, Oxford University and PhD in knowledge hubs and digital strategies from Nyenrode, the Netherlands School of Business. Former university lecturer and journalist/publisher. Experienced director and consultant having worked 35 years with Elsevier, SAGE Publishing and Springer Nature to regional managing director level. Former Senior Vice President for Elsevier in academic relations and latterly director of Nature Research portfolio for China based in Shanghai. Now International Director – Academic Relations for Arete Intelligence.

In a lengthy career in science publishing has been an adviser to the China government’s state information department as a member of China Books International and partnered and consulted with many university presidents especially in China and across Asia as well as for the EU and its agencies. Also has been a senior adviser to the International STM Publishers Association and to the Association for Learned, Professional and Scholarly Publishers. Former district councillor in Oxfordshire.

Native English speaker and has some competence in a number of languages including Russian, Japanese and some Chinese, though best in French.
